Charger III back next
Built by: Dave Armstrong in Tucson, Arizona
I finally got around to building one of these. MIB kit, built box stock. I made the paint a little darker. Duplicolor primer, paint, and clear, with a Crystal Clear enamel extra coat of clear. Two-tone painted leather interior. Detail painted the engine and wheels. Front wheels are steerable. Maybe not perfect but I think it came out fairly well. For anyone who hasn't built one yet, here are some observations.
It's a fairly straightforward build, with no surgery or putty involved. That said, some of the assembly involves some tight fits. To get the rear section to sit right, the chassis needed to be trimmed just a bit at the end. The front inner fender/wheel wells needed to be trimmed at the corners. The interior back panel needed to be sanded down at the top edge, for the back end to sit right. The hinge part isn't made "deep" enough for the pegs on the canopy to move freely; I carved a bit of the plastic away and sanded where those pegs would go in--still not enough. I cut tiny slices of Revell clear windshield plastic to glue on the two bottom sides of that hinge part, to raise it up a tad, and make those openings for the pegs a little deeper. Bingo! The canopy is free to raise or lower.
