Shakey's Pizza Wagon back next
Built by: Dave Rasmussen in Mequon, Wisconsin
The new repop of the TD Pie Wagon (2025) got me wanting to build this kit for the first time since I did it in 1968. I decided to go with a pizza delivery wagon theme with Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red from a rattle can.
But what about the decals? The original decals for pizza are quite lame (the new 2025 ones are excellent,) so I thought about my favorite pizza place in my hometown, which was about 200 years from my paper--Shakey's Pizza! I can still hear the AM radio jingle in my head, "We serve FUN at Shakey's....also pizza...SHAKEY'S!"
Now, in getting the image for the decals, I discovered Shakey's was actually a "chain" restaurant that started in California in 1954--never knew this til now. Wikipedia link <-- link.
I had the decals made at Bedlam Creations and I love the look with the Italian Red paint. Turning the pies into pizzas in the back was fun and I used some gap filler to mitigate some of my assembly sins. Next time, I'll do it as a Taco Wagon, perhaps using my favorite Taco joint, Taco John's.
The first pic has the build with my original 1968 sealed TD Pie Wagon.
