Poison Pinto    back  next

Built by: Bob Spedding in Citrus Park, Florida

This is a restoration of an old built-up model I acquired many years ago, it was missing a few parts but overall in good condition. The missing steering tie-rod and bumper "darts" were easily fabricated, while the missing headlight and gas cap were cast using parts from a Pinto Street Rod kit to make molds. Other missing parts like the alternator and license plate came from my parts box.

After disassembly and a good cleaning, I polished the bright green body and sprayed it with Tamiya TS-13 Clear. Next, the chassis was assembled basically stock except I narrowed the front track to get the tires tucked under the fender flares.

I swapped out the kit carbs for a couple of Holley 1850s from the AMT '69 Torino, added a MAD distributor & coil, and printed Boss 429 Decals for the valve covers.

The only real change I made was to swap the dark-tinted windows for the clear windows from a Pinto Street Rod kit and tint them green using Testors Candy Green Spray paint.

To finish it off I created artwork and printed my own "Poison Pinto " decals and stripes, topped by another coat of clear.

A quick and fun rebuild, hope you like it! 8-)
