Tweedy Pie   back  next

Built by: Russ Rydberg in Arvada, Colorado

This is the second Ed Big Daddy Roth kit I have built since returning to the craft as an adult.  I had built the Tweety Pie and its spinoff, The RodFather, when I was a kid, but I know didn’t do either of them justice.

Even now, as an adult, I found the kit pretty challenging.  A few of the build instructions and illustrations are vague at best, so there is a little guessing going on.  There was plenty of flash from the old moldings, and a lot of very thin parts!  If the part was slim at the connection point to the sprue, you can be sure I broke it.  To inflict added pain on myself, I chose to try my hand at scratch-built strap hinges for the door to be able to open and close it. The door does come separate from the body, but the kit hinges are not meant to be operable.

The color is Createx Transparent Red Violet over Createx Pearl Plum. The interior is Createx Pearl White. I tried to make the shift handle look like a beer tap handle.  The decals went on surprisingly well and held up to all my fidgety maneuvering.  The flocking for the carpet is a custom mix of purples.
