Vega Mini Van (saved)    back  next

I have been Looking for the Monogram “Rat Vega” kit for over 30 years. When I found this Monogram “Vega Mini Van”, This is as close as I’ve been able to get to the “Rat Vega” which is a holy grail kit of mine. They are nearly impossible to find in the UK where I live.

This was a total glue bomb and was in a very sorry state when I got it. Where the windows had been glued in the inside of the roof had actually melted the plastic. It looked like half a tube of glue had been used to attach it! There was so much glue damage that the windows were totally unusable.

To cover a lot of the damage I added tons of tuck and roll upholstery everywhere… Even in the engine bay and inside of the roof. I thought why not as this was a totally wild show car. I thought it would be cool to give it my own twist and style. One of the parts that I really didn’t like about the “Vega Mini Van” version was the grill design. It was horrible. So I drew up my own grill based off of a 60’s Chevrolet Camaro grill. I designed this piece using Fusion 360 which is a CAD program and then printed it out on my 3D printer.

The rear of the car was badly damaged also so I added a parts box full-width tail light. I deleted the bumpers and roof rails for a smoother look. I added my own modified air filter to the engine as some parts were missing. I painted the car with Ford Electric Orange which is a Ford Focus ST colour. And painted everything else pearl white as I thought it looked cool and the original chrome was destroyed!

As I said the windows were beyond redemption also, so I used yellow-tinted plastic card for all the windows. I am really happy with how it turned out. And I have now finally found a “Rat Vega” so watch this space…. And yes it is also a glue bomb, though not as bad as this was!
